Developed through cycles of visual exploration, historical research, and editorial revision, the publication brings archival photographs, reporting, maps, and internal documents into a deliberately confrontational yellow-and-blue system. Oversized headlines interrupt dense evidence; the cover recasts the Statue of Liberty through the visual language of the banana trade.
The result is a printed research artifact designed to make those connections visible and invite closer reading. The inquiry also informed an emerging teaching framework: begin with open-ended form-making, follow the questions into cultural research, then return to design with a more informed point of view.
Research, editorial design, and collage illustration: Whitney Rush. Source reporting, photographs, and archival materials are attributed within the publication.
